Sunday: the day of rest

Ah, blissful Sunday. The one day a week when we can sit in our pyjamas, wrap up in a blanket and watch Netflix all day without being judged. With a week full of stressful meetings, socialising with friends and squeezing in workout time, we should all be taking advantage of the one day a week dedicated to rest. Our bodies (and minds) need to fully relax and recover after not only workout sessions but a full-on week of work and play. If you’re lounging around the house today, with no intention of leaving (which is exactly what we’re doing), here are four things you can do to make the most of your week ahead.

Meal prep

Batch cooking is a game-changer. It’s the difference between having time on your hands and eating healthily during the week, or ordering a takeaway because you can’t be bothered to cook when you get home. Use some time today to make a big pot of soup or curry and portion it out so you can stay ahead of the game.

Set an intention

In an ideal world, we’d have time to work out five times a week, but when it comes to it, we’re just not in the right head space and tend to make excuses to not go to class. If you set the right intention at the start of your week, depending on your mood and how busy your week is, you’re much more likely to stick to your goals.

Listen to an inspirational podcast

Podcasts are great for motivation, and there are some brilliant fitness ones out there. Put one on while you’re mooching around the flat getting chores done for some motivation for the week ahead. Here are 8 of the best to get you started.

Create a power playlist

Everyone needs a high-energy playlist to blast through a good workout. Spending some time carefully creating one with songs you love and know will help you power through that early morning run and keep you motivated during your workout.

But most importantly: rest. Whatever that means to you – whether it’s going for a long walk to clear your head, reading a good book in bed, or spending the day doing your favourite activity – make sure you carve out some time and stick to it so you’re ready for the new week. And once you’re rested, it’s time to think about your goals. So why not take advantage of our offer of four Strong or yoga classes for £40, to keep you strong for whatever the week throws at you.
