This new Netflix show is exactly what we want to watch right now

If you have a hankering to watch something that is totally unlike the monotony of your current day-to-day, White Lines is the solution to your lockdown quandry. The new Netflix mystery, which debuts today, is a glossy and hedonistic thriller set on sun-drenched Ibiza (so you can scratch that travel itch), switching between the present day and 90s rave culture.

Created by Money Heist’s Álex Pina, the 10-part drama follows Mancunian librarian Zoe (Laura Haddock from The Capture) who travels to the Balearic paradise after the discovery of her brother’s body – a wannabe superstar DJ who disappeared on the island 20 years ago – to find out what really happened to him. “Expect drugs – if you hadn’t already guessed from the title,” says Stylist’s entertainment director Helen Bownass. “Plus sex parties, envy-inducing shots of Ibiza, mystery and a great soundtrack. This is debauched, sometimes absurd and intriguing telly. In other words, it’s exactly what the lockdown doctor ordered.” White Lines is on Netflix now

Tell your friends you miss them, the old-school way

While the popularity of video calls has dominated the headlines, analogue communication has also seen a boom during quarantine, with stationery brand Papier reporting a 300% increase in sales of greeting cards, notecards and letter paper. Given our hopes of being reunited with friends were cruelly dashed this week, there’s no better time to post a small something to your closest crew. Stylist Loves’ deputy editor Moya Crockett just organised this card (from £3.50) from indie design company Poi Co to be sent to a friend: “Since Covid-19 hit, they’ve started offering a free handwriting service, which is brilliantly convenient. Tell them what message you’d like inside and they’ll post the card directly to your loved one.”

Alternatively, Aisle Studio’s bright, smile-inducing notecards (£10 for 4, Etsy) couldn’t be more fit for purpose, plus 25% of proceeds go to Age UK to support their work tackling loneliness among elderly people. Or try Callie Pettigrew’s excellent music-inspired Postcards From Isolation pack (£7.50 for 5), which features slogans like ‘Gotta get thru this’ and ‘It’s not right, but it’s OK’. We might not be able to hug our friends and family just yet – but at the very least, a card can make us feel closer together.
