What She Loves: Elizabeth Day
The journalist, author and host of the hugely successful How To Fail With Elizabeth Day podcast – the eighth series of which launches today – shares her current obsessions

The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett (Dialogue Books)
“This has just come out in the UK in ebook – it’s out in hardback on 11 June. It’s a story about two twins in the Deep South of the 1950s: they’re both black, but very light-skinned, and one of them can pass as white. She chooses to do that, and leaves her roots and her twin sister behind. It’s a beautiful and profound meditation on identity and how we become who we are.” £14.99, Waterstones

Clinique High Impact Mascara
“I’ve only just started using it and honestly, it makes my lashes look so much longer and more defined than they are.” £20, Lookfantastic

Secret Smokehouse Smoked Salmon Pate
“This smokehouse in London Fields does incredible pate. I love all of their stuff – I’m obsessed with smoked fish.” £6.50, Secret Smokehouse

Made Faux Sheepskin Armchair
“This chair fits perfectly into the corner of my landing without overwhelming the space, and it’s really comfortable. The cat likes it as well, so that’s a good sign.” £349, Made

David Shrigley’s new virtual exhibition has all the lockdown feels

“My intention is to sleep through the crisis” reads a handwritten caption alongside a man tucked up in bed, his feet poking out the end. A series of four illustrations showing a kettle coming to the boil is titled ‘Entertainment’. In another drawing, a picture of a washing machine with its door open sits alongside two, wry words: “Get in.”

If your life could do with a dose of deadpan humour right now, the new virtual David Shrigley exhibition will make you smile. The beloved conceptual artist, famous for his irreverent illustrations, has unveiled a series of “Lockdown Drawings” as part of an online exhibition with Mayfair’s Stephen Friedman Gallery. Created during the UK’s lockdown while Shrigley is holed up in his home in Devon, all 340 works of art feature Shrigley’s whimsical ink on paper drawings, accompanied by satirical comments (and a sprinkling of expletives) on the absurdities of everyday lockdown life. You will smirk, you will laugh and you will feel seen. “Lockdown Drawings” is on display until 7 June
