The idea of a temporal loop – where a person is forced to repeat the same period of time, often the same day, over and over again – is a well-established plot device. An obvious example is the 1993 comedy Groundhog Day, but the trope has appeared in films and fiction around the world since at least the 1940s. Now, new romantic comedy Palm Springs, starring Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti as a pair of cynical wedding guests doomed to attend the big day on repeat, has dropped on Amazon Prime – and it’s wildly entertaining.

“I started watching Palm Springs knowing nothing about it except that it starred Samberg, who I’ve long adored thanks to his role in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and that it premiered at Sundance last year to universal acclaim,” says Stylist Loves’ deputy editor Moya Crockett. “But even if you’re aware of the basic premise, this Golden Globe-nominated film will keep your jaw dropping with twists and turns. I really don’t want to give anything more away, but I will say that Palm Springs blends sunny surrealism, profound philosophical ideas and perfectly observed characters in a way that fans of The Good Place will love.
