The latest wine trend? Labels that look good enough to frame

They say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover – and in theory, the same should apply to wine. Yet the chicest independent vintners are now creating bottles that are covetable for what’s on them, as much as what’s in them. Case in point: new ethical vegan wine brand Savor, which adorns its bottles with abstract illustrations inspired by their place of origin (from £48 for three). Then there’s Summer Wine by cult natural wine purveyors Top Cuvée (£19, Shop Cuvée), a super-refreshing rose created with ‘funniest man on Instagram’ Raven Smith. Featuring a tongue-in-cheek illustration of a Birkenstock-ed Smith, the label captures the vibe we’re hoping to channel until September.

Into natural wine and monochrome design? Try Tillingham End Grain 2019 (£29.60, Monty’s Wine), a hazy, East Sussex-made dry white in a bottle reminiscent of a Joy Division album cover. The label of NOITA Winery Hex Bag 2020 (£28.50, It’s Alive) – an Austrian natural orange rose – is so stylish, we want to steam it off the bottle and frame it. Finally, Pin Pin Malbec Domaine La Calmette 2020 (£17, Low Intervention) is a sparkling, low-alcohol red labelled with a frankly delightful cartoon Frenchman (aka the perfect gift for a design-loving, light-drinking friend). If one of these bottles gets used as the focal point for your next tablescape, we certainly wouldn’t blame you.

What She Loves: Jessie Ware
The chart-topping singer and author of Omelette: Food, Love, Chaos and Other Conversations (out tomorrow) shares her current obsessions

Microplane
“I’m sure everyone knows how to do this but [co-author of Ottolenghi Flavour] Ixta Belfrage told me to grate garlic on one of those microplanes or zesters – it takes off the skin so you don’t have to peel it. I thought I was quite a good cook, but I didn’t know that. My mum was like, ‘Of course everyone does that’, but I’ve never seen her do it.” £6, John Lewis & Partners

How To Kill Your Family by Bella Mackie (out 22 July)
“I’m reading this at the moment and it’s brilliant. I think everyone will love it. It’s kind of like Killing Eve; she’s very witty and sarcastic.” £14.99, Bookshop.org

Kold Sauce Long Sleeve T-shirt
“My friends do this fermented hot sauce called Kold Sauce; it’s the best hot sauce in the world. They’ve got these really good long sleeve T-shirts, so I’m enjoying those in XL [Jessie is heavily pregnant with her third child].” £31.50, Kold Sauce

Dill pickles
“I’m eating a lot of dill pickles with edam cheese rolled in wraps. I got the last jar of Vlasic pickles from Panzer’s Deli, but the Mrs Elswood Haimisha ones are also good.” £1.70, Waitrose

Face Gym Youth Reformer Serum
“I’ve neglected my skin for quite a while but now I’m realising that when you look after your skin, you can look much better. I really love Dr Dennis Gross, the peel pads are so good. And Face Gym brought out new serums with a beautiful one that smells of Palo Santo wood, which is really nice to use.” £80, Face Gym
