Hesitant about retinol? This breakthrough serum deserves a place in your bathroom

If we were retinol – the potent form of vitamin A that dermatologists love for its stellar skin-improving properties – we’d be hiring Bennifer 2.0’s publicist. Because despite delivering more radiance and firmness while reducing hyperpigmentation and fine lines, there are many who are still nervous about its reputation for triggering dryness, redness and peeling in the first weeks of use – especially if you have sensitive skin. So no wonder iconic skincare brand Kiehl’s has just launched its genius Retinol Skin Renewing Daily Micro Dose Serum.

Designed for daily use – no need to introduce it into your skincare routine gradually like other formulas – it delivers a carefully calibrated dose of retinol, peptides and ceramides, while minimising the usual side effects. “As somebody who’s never experienced skin sensitivity, I was surprised when lockdown threw my skin out of whack,” says Stylist’s senior beauty writer Hanna Ibraheem. “As a result, I eased up on my use of retinol. When I tried Kiehl’s new product, I was surprised (and massively relieved) that my skin didn’t sting or feel uncomfortable on first use. After a just few days, it’s already begun to feel softer, plumper and appears brighter, too. If you’ve struggled with the side effects of retinol or avoided it because of your skin type, this formula is worth checking out.” Maybe retinol can hold off on that publicist after all… £62, Kiehl’s

This new Brixton restaurant will make you feel like you’re on a Mediterranean holiday

What to do with a derelict Edwardian department store? Here’s an idea: transform the ground floor into a beautiful pan-Mediterranean restaurant called Bellefields, with ex-Bonnie Gull chef James Mathieson heading up the kitchen. This new opening in Brixton specialises in the sunny delicacies of Aegean, Balearic and Levantine cuisine, with a menu that leaps between Sicilian caponata, taramasalata with padron peppers and seared-to-perfection steak frites. The result: a little slice of holiday magic in SW9.

“Nothing beats the tart tang of a grapefruit-filled G&T – especially during a torrential downpour – so it was a welcome surprise to learn that Bellefields specialises in Mediterranean gins,” says Stylist’s digital fashion writer Naomi May. “We shared the burrata with creamy olive oil and fresh basil; crab tortellini, aka the most melt-in-your-mouth pasta I’ve ever eaten; and spaghetti alla chitarra cacio e pepe, all washed down with a full-bodied chianti. It was a holiday-worthy meal without the holiday, and I’d die happy if I could survive on a diet of Bellefields’ focaccia (a fluffy, carby cloud) and tiramisu (oozing with the most delicious coffee-to-chocolate-to-cream-to-cake ratio) for the rest of my life. South Londoners, you know what to do.” 9 Stockwell Avenue, London, SW9 9SY
