Welcome to the April edition – this month, Stylist’s digital fashion writer Naomi May dishes on the luxury trends, people and news you need to know

Forget the Plain White Tee, it’s now all about the Plain White Tank. After opening Prada’s autumn/winter 2022 show clad in a crisp, snow-white vest that drew uncanny similarities to Tony Soprano’s favoured staple, Kaia Gerber sent the humble tank’s popularity into overdrive, with Bottega Veneta and Chloe also weaving the hard-working staple into their autumn/winter 2022 collections.

Juxtaposing fashion’s current frisson with the more-is-more aesthetic, it’s not just Prada that’s paving the way for pared-back basics – cult Spanish brand Loewe is ahead of the game thanks to this simple white tank (£250) from its spring/summer 2022 collection.

Our sources at Net-a-Porter tell us that searches for Loewe’s version were up by 1,355% between February and March this year, with the online retailer revealing in its industry trend presentation back in November that it had invested in several different iterations for the season ahead. It’s the surprising staple that, as luck might have it, may well already be hidden away in a corner of your wardrobe.

There are few things that get the Stylist fashion team as excited as the news of a burgeoning ‘it’ bag. So when French heritage label Longchamp – best known for its classic Le Pliage bags – announced a colour-packed collaboration with graffiti artist André Saraiva, we immediately dropped our invitation to next week’s Chanel Cruise show and paid attention.

The brand has tapped the artist to reimagine four iterations of the tote with his graffiti signatures: punchy colours and the winking face of Saraiva’s Mr. A alter ego. I, for one, have my eye planted firmly on the top handle pouch in juicy apple green (£55).

It’s a collaboration that began many years ago, when Longchamp moved into its first Parisian showroom, which had previously been rented by Saraiva. “When we moved in, we discovered André had been there before us – because right there, on the back of a door, was Mr. A, so you could call that our first meeting. We eventually left the showroom, but we kept the door,” says Longchamp’s creative director Sophie Delafontaine. As the adage goes, what goes around comes around… From £55; available Tuesday 26 April; longchamp.com

Taking some of fashion’s most recent – and lauded – collections as evidence, it would appear that designers have been foraging for inspiration in their vegetable patches, with fungi fashion being ferreted out of the ground and re-rooted onto the runways. Alexander McQueen’s autumn/winter 2022 collection was inspired by mycelium, aka the root structures of funghi, which creative director Sarah Burton spotted growing on the balcony of her studio as Stylist’s acting executive fashion director Hannah Moore discovered while at the off-schedule show in New York.

Also inspired by mycelium is Stella McCartney, with the designer tapping famed mycologist Merlin Sheldrake to consult on the brand’s summer campaign, Mushrooms Are The Future, which aims to impress the dependence the future has on funghi. Mycelium has practical uses too – a Stella McCartney handbag crafted from creamy, buttery mushroom leather will be available later this year. Can’t wait til then? Invest in Brandon Maxwell’s psychedelic magic mushroom print rugby top (£696), or Rodarte’s printed silk slip dress (£975) and cape-effect printed silk gown (£2,140). Perfect for garden weddings, we say…

Adored by Rihanna, Adwoa Aboah and the Hadids to name just a few, Nensi Dojaka’s blink-and-you’ll-miss-them sheer, strappy designs are the antithesis of the swaddling sweats we spent lockdown in. And now the Albanian-born designer has dropped an exclusive capsule collection at MyTheresa, just in time for summer.

The 67-piece range, which marks the designer’s first foray into beach attire and resortwear, is a departure from the colour palette for which she’s known. There’s no black and burgundy to be seen, instead it’s brimming with azure blues, canary yellows and juicy tangerines. Happily, her signature cut-outs remain – I’ll be wear this zesty lemon halter mini-dress (£672) with my biggest sunglasses and one hell of a (faux) glow.

No doubt we’ll soon see the collection on Jourdan Dunn, who was nestled on the coveted front row of Dojaka’s recent London Fashion Week show alongside Dua Lipa’s stylist Lorenzo Posocco, who I couldn’t help notice sat eagle-eyed while taking notes. Perhaps a Dua x Dojaka collab is next on the cards? We can only hope. From £142, mytheresa.com
