The string vest aesthetic is back, just in time for next week’s mini-heatwave

Only Victoria Beckham could take a much-maligned fashion item like the string vest and turn it into a seasonal must-have. Debuting her open-knit racer back silhouette (£195) as part of the brand’s spring/summer 2022 presentation, the style once infamous for being worn by 80s Scottish sitcom character Rab C Nesbitt has been joined by a range of other fishing net-inspired designs which are infiltrating all aspects of our summer wardrobes.

The Frankie Shop channels VB with its casual crop top (£71), while & Other Stories’ sleeveless midi dress (£85) might just be the perfect holiday cover-up. Warehouse (£109) and H&M’s (£29.99) collared knit dresses are equally worthy of your suitcase, but if you’re more into separates, Cult Gaia’s metallic skirt (£498) and Free People’s high-rise trousers (£58) are ideal for relaxed beach looks. And while string bags made a comeback last summer, Prada’s logo tote (£1,450) is arguably the bag of the season – Pull & Bear (£19.99) and Arket (£55) tick the same box with their more purse-friendly string designs. Not quite ready to commit to the look? Mango’s boho range of woven shell earrings (£15.99) and pendant necklaces (£15.99) are a more subtle nod to the trend. And for a dressier option that will see you right through to party season, the Spanish brand’s blingy chainmail-inspired T-shirt (£59.99) and tank top (£59.99) will look just as good with slouchy tailored trousers as they do denim cut-offs. If it’s good enough for Posh…

You’re Going To Love: Uncut Stems
In the latest of our series focusing on up-and-coming independent brands with female and non-binary founders, allow us to introduce you to Uncut Stems

What is it? A London-based, sustainably-focused flower club which delivers local, seasonal stems to your door every fortnight – and already has fans including Laura Jackson and Lucy Williams.

Who’s behind it? Former creative producer and stylist Vicki Baker, who turned her love of flowers into a full-time business during the pandemic – with the name itself born out of a lockdown-induced Zoom drink with friends. “I wanted something that represented both the DIY element, and also the minimal interference the flowers have before customers receive them. It fit perfectly – un-arranged, imperfect flowers, gloriously local and seasonal, delivered almost as they come from the field,” Vicki tells Stylist Loves.

Why you’ll love it: Aspire to nail the cottagecore aesthetic of a perfectly-imperfect vase of freshly-cut flowers, but don’t have a garden? Uncut Stems is here to help. “Our goal is to educate on seasonality and the true life cycle of a flower,” says Vicki, who nominates “anything daisy-like – asters, feverfew, wild daisies” as her favourite type of bloom. Each bi-weekly delivery features a thoughtful collection of seasonal flowers and foliage, along with details on each stem and styling tips. Initial subscriptions sold out in record time, but more will become available on 23 September and you can join the waitlist now. In the meantime, spare buckets are released weekly to help avoid unnecessary waste – the ideal way to try before you commit. Who says we can’t live out our country dreams in the city? £30/fortnight, uncutstems.co.uk
