The famous story of an aggrieved woman consumed by rage, pain, and revenge sits firmly in the canon of great Greek tragedies, having been written by Euripides in 431BC – however this adaptation thrusts the familiar narrative into a bold new light, leaving the audience vibrating with complex secondhand emotions.

Even as she emerges drenched in blood after committing her third murder, Okonedo’s Medea is never 100% monster. Instead, she’s a woman psychologically scarred by the men who spend the entirety of the play circulating her every move.
