| The raw intensity of this classic Greek tale of rage and revenge is absolutely riveting | While Sophie Okonedo has no shortage of fans thanks to her roles in Slow Horses and Ratched, even her most ardent supporters will be impressed by the intensity she radiates as the titular protagonist in Medea. The famous story of an aggrieved woman consumed by rage, pain, and revenge sits firmly in the canon of great Greek tragedies, having been written by Euripides in 431BC – however this adaptation thrusts the familiar narrative into a bold new light, leaving the audience vibrating with complex secondhand emotions.
“‘Man screws over woman; woman is painted as a crazed, irrational villain’ is the crux of this story,” says Stylist’s digital executive editor, Jazmin Kopotsha. “Early on, Medea reminds us that we have gathered to ‘peer at my sorrow’ and cast early judgement on her as a rejected mother of two who is about to be sent into exile. But what Okonedo does so magnificently is keep you firmly on the fence before condemning her. Even as she emerges drenched in blood after committing her third murder, Okonedo’s Medea is never 100% monster. Instead, she’s a woman psychologically scarred by the men who spend the entirety of the play circulating her every move. No matter how familiar you are with the character, her husband Jason and the Golden Fleece, you’ll leave with a more nuanced understanding of the astonishing woman behind the drama.” Until 22 April; from £25; Soho Place, Charing Cross Rd, W1D

| You’re Going To Love: Sense Of Ldn In the latest of our series focusing on up-and-coming independent brands with women and non-binary founders, allow us to introduce you to Sense Of Ldn
| What is it? Launched in June last year, Sense Of Ldn is an eco-friendly and vegan home fragrance brand, created in and inspired by London.
Who’s behind it? Songwriter Jess Morgan who, while studying for a law degree, channelled her environmentally conscious values and interests into a line of candles and diffusers made with natural, sustainable ingredients.
Why you’ll love it: Candles have really come into their own since turning on the lights became more costly than a Hermès Birkin, but if you’ve ever considered the ingredients, you’ll know that not all are created equal. And it’s not just Sense Of Ldn’s hand-poured 100% soy wax credentials that caught our eye, but its celebration of a certain capital city. “The brand embodies the spirit of London, so each scent – available in both candle and diffuser form – is inspired by a different area,” Jess tells Stylist Loves. The Signature Collection includes The Regents Park, The Primrose Hill and The Hackney Wick, while a limited-edition Christmas range paid its respects to Greenwich, Swiss Cottage and Marble Arch. The Opulent Collection, which debuted this month, hones in on west London with The Knightsbridge, The Mayfair and The Chelsea. Those into musky scents will love the blend of Cuban tobacco and oak in Jess’ favourite Hackney Wick (“it’s like a warm hug”), with the likes of black fig & vetiver and rock salt & driftwood also on offer to suit all olfactory tastes – and postcodes.
