Aimee Lou Wood is an actor known for her candid honesty. She’s been outspoken about her mental health and her previous struggles with an eating disorder, and she took to social media this weekend to criticise a Saturday Night Live sketch in which cast member Sarah Sherman impersonated her while wearing exaggerated prosthetic teeth.

“Whilst in honest mode – I did find the SNL thing mean and unfunny,” Wood responded in an Instagram post, adding later: “Such a shame cuz I had such a great time watching it a couple weeks ago. Yes, take the piss for sure – that’s what the show is about – but there must be a cleverer, more nuanced, less cheap way?”

The sketch came just weeks after Wood had shared in a GQ Hype interview that the conversation about her appearance made her “a bit sad” as she was “not getting to talk about [her] work”. “They think it’s nice because they’re not criticising,” she says. Later, she adds: “I don’t know if it was a man would we be talking about it this much? It’s still going on about a woman’s appearance.”

SNL quickly apologised to Wood, but the fact that she had to voice her criticism in the first place is both frustrating and disappointing. Because in 2025, the media is still picking on women for sport, and women are having to be more outspoken than ever against it.
