Even though I strongly believe romcoms are a year-round treat, there’s something about a festive and seasonal romance that really embodies the spirit of Christmas. The snowy meet-cutes, dates under the mistletoe and the inevitable happy endings by Christmas Day are something I look forward to every winter. It’s the epitome of cosy season and one of my favourite ways to embrace some good old festive cringe. Because if you can’t cringe at Christmas, then what’s the point?

I’m forever rolling my eyes at people who tell me these stories aren’t ‘realistic’ because when it comes to romcoms, realism isn’t something a lot of us are looking for. That’s what real life is for. These stories are about escapism; I know exactly what the tropes are and how the story will end – with a happily ever after.

Luckily, there are some truly ridiculous, silly and brilliant festive romcoms that make you feel like Christmas spirit is being injected directly into your veins. Falling in love with a sexy snowman? Sign me up. Going to your ex’s family house for Christmas? Crazy, and I love it. Recruiting someone as your date for every holiday occasion? Brilliant.
