What is Chevalier about?

The illegitimate son of an African slave and a French plantation owner, Joseph Bologne is a man destined for greatness. He travels from the Caribbean to France, trains as a master swordsman and becomes one of the first Black colonels in the French army. He dazzles Queen Marie Antoinette so much that she knights him Chevalier de Saint-Georges, and becomes something of a darling of the French court. Or, to put it more bluntly, he becomes romantically involved with many, many, many women.

And then, of course, there’s his music. His wonderful, wonderful music.
