The Catholic church’s pope is one of the most famous public figures in the world, yet not much is known about how each new pope is chosen. The process is shrouded in secrecy, and a new film aims to dive into this world that only exists behind closed doors. Conclave is the latest film from Edward Berger, director of the award-winning All Quiet On The Western Front, and adapted from Robert Harris’s international bestseller of the same name.

**What is the plot of Conclave?**

Conclave follows one of the world’s most secretive and ancient events – selecting a new pope. Cardinal Lawrence is tasked with running this covert process after the unexpected death of the beloved pope.

“Once the Catholic church’s most powerful leaders have gathered from around the world and are locked together in the Vatican halls, Lawrence finds himself at the centre of a conspiracy and discovers a secret that could shake the very foundation of the church,” reads the official synopsis.

**Who stars in Conclave?**

The film stars Ralph Fiennes as Cardinal Lawrence, Stanley Tucci as Cardinal Bellini, John Lithgow as Cardinal Tremblay and Isabella Rossellini as Sister Agnes. Carlos Diehz, Lucian Msamati, Brían F. O’Byrne, Merab Ninidze and Sergio Castellitto also star.

**When will Conclave be released?**
