A thrilling reunion if there ever was one, Jenna Coleman and Oliver Jackson-Cohen are back together on screen for an action-thriller that’s a little different to their Wilderness ways.

Written and directed by Jamie Childs (The Sandman, Vera, His Dark Materials), Jackdaw is all about one man’s search for answers as he returns to his hometown. Set in the north-east of England, and filmed in Hartlepool and the Tees Valley, Childs wanted to spotlight the region.

When it comes to action-packed films, you may come to expect them to be set in atmospheric towns in the US or the hustle and bustle of capital cities such as London or Paris. But what about the vastness of the UK? Well, in the new action-thriller, Jackdaw, viewers get a glimpse of just that.

“We set out to push the envelope of what was possible stylistically and tonally in our region. Its clash of pastoral and industrial worlds is the perfect setting for an exciting, pulpy chase thriller,” Childs says. He added that he “wanted to prove to an up-and-coming wave of potential filmmakers that we can take advantage of what’s right on our doorstep and still appeal to an international audience.”

**What is the plot of Jackdaw?**

Set over the course of a single night, the film centres around former motocross champion and army veteran Jack Dawson. After his mother dies, he returns to his hometown to care for his brother and takes a job with an old school friend and local criminal, Silas. However, what was supposed to be a straightforward pick-up of a package in the North Sea quickly turns sour when his brother ends up kidnapped. Chaos ensues and Jack has to navigate a violent night-time search for his brother in dangerous environments.
