First, Baz Luhrmann’s glittering Elvis biopic burst into cinemas, exploring the music legend’s rise to fame in larger-than-life style. But now director Sofia Coppola is set to explore another side to the story, placing the focus on Presley’s wife, Priscilla.

Priscilla is based on Priscilla Presley’s 1985 autobiography Elvis & Me, and will follow her often turbulent relationship with the singer. The couple met when Priscilla was 14 years old; she was living on a German army base at the time, where Presley was stationed during his overseas service in the US army. He was 24 and already had a thriving music career.

From The Virgin Suicides to Marie Antoinette and The Beguiled, Coppola, who is doing double duty as Priscilla’s director and screenwriter, has always had a knack for exploring female stories from unexpected angles.

In the film’s first trailer, there are plenty of the hallmarks of her work that we know and love, from the lingering close-up shots homing in on Priscilla’s make-up (recreated in perfect period detail) to the scenes exploring the often mundane or frustrating sides of fame. Oh, and there’s a smattering of pale pink throughout, too.
