As per the official synopsis, this quietly affecting film is all about Fran, a woman who “lives an isolated, uneventful life” in a coastal Oregon town.

“She has a closet full of beige clothes, a cubicle job at a small office and a daily routine that includes idle fantasies about all the different ways she could die. When friendly and outgoing Robert joins the company where she works, Fran finds herself navigating waters outside her solitary bubble as the two get to know each other. But can she let her guard down enough to build a real relationship?”

Speaking to IndieWire about her role, Ridley says that she hopes that the audience will see themselves in Fran.

“A lot of us recognise her, whether it’s about ourselves or our sister or our friend. There are so many Frans in the world that I think she’s very recognisable in a non-judgmental way.”

Powerfully, she continues: “The film, for me, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts, because it is about people. We follow Fran, but it’s about people. It’s about humanity. It’s about the fact that it’s really fucking uncomfortable a lot of the time to be a person and to be like, ‘Oh, my god. Oh, my god. Am I going to say the right thing? Am I going to fuck it up?’ There’s always a hundred things to be thinking about and worrying about, but actually, human connection is the most important thing.”
