Rumours of a sequel began to circulate back in February of last year when Curtis posted a picture of herself and Lohan on Instagram with the caption: “It’s Friday. I’m just sayin! Freaky fingers crossed!”

Since then, the project has been confirmed. Both Lohan and Curtis are set to reprise their roles for the new film, with Elyse Hollander writing the script and Nisha Ganatra (who has directed episodes of And Just Like That, Dollface and Brooklyn Nine-Nine), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Last month, Lohan told People that the film was very much “in the process” and that she was “just excited to work with Jamie again and see how much further we can take it”. And last week, Curtis took to Instagram, posting a photo of the pair on set.

The Freaky Friday sequel is on its way – and the plot is as bonkers as we could have hoped
