In the teaser, we are treated to classic teenage cringe as Rosaline’s father (played by Get Out and The Handmaid’s Tale’s Bradley Whitford) attempts to pair her up with one of Verona’s remaining single suitors.

“Wonderful… you marry him!” Rosaline quips as she appears to be getting ready for a masquerade ball.

The bachelor in question, Dario (Sean Teale) sits on the other side of the door, listening to Rosaline complain and declare that she would rather “eat rotten goat’s innards” while her father pleads for her to give the boy a chance.

But Dario looks impressed as he listens to Rosaline lament about wanting to travel the world and find adventure. Eventually, Rosaline comes out and puts on a mopey display of utter indifference, responding only with perhaps the most iconic teen-girl phrase of all: “Whatever.”

Based on this short clip, Dever’s Rosaline seems sharp, witty and determined to correct the course of what we know to be literary classic.

Historically, teen-skewed literary-to-cinematic adaptations have always been popular. With She’s The Man, 10 Things I Hate About You, Clueless and She’s All That secured in the genre, modern twists on well-loved classics have proved to be fashion-changing, slang-forming, and iconic in their own right.
