Archie Panjabi, meanwhile, stars as Zahra Gahfoor, a counterterrorism officer who is on the ground when the plane is hijacked and becomes part of the investigation. And the cast is rounded out by the likes of Christine Adams, Max Beesley, Eve Myles, Neil Maskell, Jasper Britton, Harry Michell, Aimée Kelly, Mohamed Elsandel and Ben Miles.

Naturally, a series set aboard a hijacked plane is always going to raise at least one or two eyebrows. Still, with Lupin’s George Kay in the driving seat and Elba the star of the show, it seems safe to say that people are overwhelmingly excited for Hijack to hit their TV screens.

“It takes a fresh approach to a thriller and hostage situation,” Elba promises EW.

“There’s an amplified nature of having a ticking time bomb in a plane and what that does to human nature. [Especially as] it is an examination of the procedures and attitudes [within the government and law enforcement], and that becomes a focal point of the storytelling.”
