Sheridan Smith has been cast in a new ITV drama, I Fought The Law. The drama is based on the heartbreaking story of one woman’s determination to find justice for her daughter’s murder.

Centred around the true story of Ann Ming’s campaigning, as documented in her book For the Love of Julie, the series dramatises Ming’s real experience of taking on the Criminal Justice System to change the Double Jeopardy Law.

Across the four episodes, Smith will star as Ming, as she battles for fifteen years to change the law after her daughter, Julie, disappears after a shift at a pizza parlour in November 1989.

Tragically, Julie’s body was found eighty days later in 1990, concealed in the bathroom of her house. Later, Julie’s murderer was acquitted and Ming worked tirelessly for almost two decades to bring her daughter’s killer to justice.
