We love gritty dramas and thrillers as much as the next person. Our watchlist of brooding and dark TV shows is almost as long as our arms at this point, and we couldn’t be happier, we promise. But with the end of summer, the dire political situation of late and the general woes of the world, we just want a bit of light relief when it comes to our television viewing options.

Yes, we may be counting down the days until The Great British Bake Off returns to our screens (we said we want wholesome content, OK?) but a new Disney+ series has quickly become our new go-to when it comes to comedic relief – with all the twists and turns we love of a thriller, of course. Wedding Season may seem like a typical romcom on the face of it, but part of the show’s appeal is that it really is anything but.

We’re initially swept up by the will they/won’t they romance of Katie (Rosa Salazar) and Stefan (Gavin Drea), who meet at a wedding. They’re both slightly intoxicated (there’s an open bar), Stefan is hurt by a rejected – and very public – marriage proposal to a now ex-girlfriend, and it’s safe to say that the two get off to a flying chemistry-filled start.
