Fashion fans get ready as the first UK retrospective of Christian Louboutin shoes has finally opened at the Design Museum in London.
The retrospective celebrates the 20 year career of the French shoe designer and showcases the inspiration and artistry behind Louboutin’s iconic red soled footwear.
Compiled from Christian Louboutin’s personal archive, the exhibition reveals the sources behind the shoes, referencing everything from Louboutin’s far-flung travels, to film, architecture, cabaret performance and even showgirls and fairytales (Louboutin has just announced a collaboration with Disney to bring to life Cinderella’s famous slippers).
Visitors get a unique insight into his design process – from initial drawings to factory production – and, for those hardcore lovers of Louboutin, there’s even a Fetish room dedicated to the shoes he designed for the 2007 Paris exhibition of the same name, produced in collaboration with film auteur David Lynch.
We recommend treating yourself to the stunning coffee table book that accompanies the exhibition – so, even if you can’t afford his shoes, you can still take a little bit of Louboutin home with you.
