90 years of Gucci

As Gucci reaches it's 90th birthday, Stylist.co.uk looks back at the legendary label's finest fashion moments.

  • 1937

    Equestrian signature detailing becomes a Gucci staple. The horse-bit clasp detailing is still a feature in today’s accessories collections for the fashion house.

  • 1947

    The Bamboo bag is unveiled and becomes an instant favourite with cinema icons Sophia Loren and Grace Kelly.

  • 1960

    Gucci launches the iconic inter-locking G’s print.

  • 1961

    The Jackie O Gucci bag launches and becomes an instant fashion must-have.

  • 1999

    David and Victoria Beckham wear head-to-toe leather matching Gucci outfits to the opening of a Versace Couture Jeans boutique.

  • 2003

    The famous Gucci Pubic advert was released in 2003 to numerous public complaints. After being investigated by the British Advertising Standards Authority, Gucci's Tom Ford avoided a ban on it after stating that it was “intended to the ultimate ironic pun for a sexy brand in a logo-led age.”

  • 2004

    After joining in 1990, Tom Ford presents his last collection for Gucci.

  • 2005

    Frida Giannini is named Creative Director of Gucci.

  • 2008

    Gucci joined forces with Madonna to raise money for Unicef and Orphans in Malawi. The star-studded party was attended by everyone from Blake Lively to Rihanna.

  • 2011

    Frida Giannini’s latest SS11 collection for Gucci launches in store. Channelling a glamorous Studio 54 vibe, the collection features a jewel colour palette and on-trend colour blocking.
