A fashion blogger’s guide to packing for Paris

So the date is in the diary and your flights are booked – now all that’s left is to plan what you’re going to do on that long-awaited weekend away. But once you’ve spent all that time researching which restaurants you’re going to hit up and the bars you’re going to frequent, there’s not a lot of time left to plan anything else. Like what you’re going to wear, for example.

Thankfully, Triumph has teamed up with fashion-editor-turned-blogger Bonnie Rakhit to give you a helping hand. The founder of, Bonnie is something of a pro when it comes to packing perfectly for a weekend away. Using her sartorial knowledge, Bonnie now regularly travels the world to share with her readers the most stylish destinations and what to wear in them. Whether it’s shooting in a suite at the W Hotel in London or exploring a luxury hotel in Cambodia, Bonnie knows exactly what you need to be wearing, starting with the basis of every perfect outfit – the ideal underwear…

Let’s start with lingerie. What makes a good bra key to putting an outfit together?

A well-fitting bra is important as your underwear forms the basis of the entire outfit. The key factor is for it to be totally flattering – for it to pick you up and boost you, creating a perfect silhouette for whatever goes on top. I love Triumph’s Magic Boost range for this, as it always make you look totally flawless.

And for the bits on top – what is always in your suitcase?

Comfy boyfriend jeans and stylish flats. I like outfits you can dress up or down. To do this, I’ll pack some statement earrings which are very on-trend this season and are guaranteed to dress up any outfit – I love anything with a tassel. I’ll also pack one pair of heels – you don’t need more than two pairs of shoes for a city break.

I like to pack some pretty underwear like Triumph’s Dream Spotlight push-up bra in flame for under strappy tops. For evening, I’ll wear something lacy and black to wear like Triumph’s Amourette Spotlight lingerie, which is perfect for adding a little sex appeal.

What is your go-to travel outfit?

I always travel in a long black jersey maxi dress. It’s a multifunctional outfit because it’s so comfortable to travel in, looks smart with a jacket and can be dressed up with heels. It’s great if your luggage goes missing, which happens a lot when you travel so much.

I always make sure I have some comfortable underwear to travel in too, because even if you’re wearing your favourite outfit, your discomfort will ruin the overall look. I love Triumph’s Amourette 300 set in opal pink which is comfortable and pretty at the same time.

What are your top packing tips?

I use small Muji kit boxes, putting all my toiletries in one, all my cables in the other, then filling the gaps with socks. I also always lay dresses flat, packing them on hangers and folding them once in the middle. It makes unpacking a lot easier.

Why is Paris your top destination for a weekend away?

I love Paris – it’s so beautiful and picturesque all year round, which is perfect for an Instagrammer. I love how you can spend lots or absolutely nothing simply walking around the streets, taking in the architecture and having a coffee. You can do as much or as little as you want and have an equally good time. And, of course, it’s so romantic which means that black lacy underwear is an absolute necessity.

What do you love about French style?

I love the way French women put pieces together because it’s not over the top; it’s effortless elegance. Parisian women have one of the chicest styles in the world – it’s a very monochrome look with lots of stripes which I always try to channel when I’m there.

Finally, where would you recommend going during a weekend in Paris?

I like to stay in the beautiful Pavillon de la Reine in the trendy Marais district. From here, it’s a quick walk to Merci – a conceptual lifestyle shop full of quirky, cool things which I love.

I don’t tend to go to any of the sights, as Paris is one of those cities where you can discover so many hidden gems just by wandering around its streets without knowing where you’re going.

But in the evenings, I’ll head for a cocktail at The Ritz, or have dinner and drinks at the Hôtel Costes where there are always a few celebrities lurking. I also love Hôtel du Nord by the river for a drink after dark.
