Kate Moss hangs out with a cigar-toting Leonardo DiCaprio as Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts cuddle together on the sofa and a topless Jude Law hangs out by the pool.
These are the private photos of producer and playboy Michael White, the legendary "enfant terrible" of London’s theatre scene. To commemorate a new film made about his life story, White has revealed his extraordinary photos gathered over five decades of partying with fabulous people. The Last Impresario is directed by Gracie Otto and will cast a light on the colourful life of someone who has played a vital role in the film and theatre industry over the past fifty years, rubbing shoulders with a host of A-List stars along the way.
White, who is now in his seventies, has amassed an incredible collection of photos over the years, providing candid and relaxed portraits of major names from the world of movies, fashion and music.
These are the kind of delightfully unguarded and intimate photos we just never see in a red carpet era, from Naomi Campbell on the phone in her bedroom to Liv Tyler and Johnny Depp getting raucous on a night out and a virtually unrecognisable Anna Wintour in a park in the seventies. Some of them are hilarious - Ruby Wax pouting ridiculously, Simon Cowell topless on his phone, while others are touchingly poignant in hindsight, like the one of Michelle Williams looking happy with her boyfriend, the late Heath Ledger and sisters Joely and Natasha Richardson (who died in a ski accident in 2009) beaming together.
They are fascinating, not only for the way in which they mix up very definable celebrity eras (hedonistic nineties, anyone?) but also for the laid-back nature of their subjects. There’s not a lot of posing going on here - it just looks like any average photo album. Featuring very famous people. And with handwritten little nuggets of detail scrawled onto the pictures by White - things like ‘Hotel Monaco’, ‘Kate M’ and ‘Cape Cod’. Come delve into the random brilliance of one of the most candid celebrity albums you’ll ever see, below:
