Despite the fact that we're finally basking in a bit of sunshine and reveling in throwing away our puffa jackets, there is more snow on its way. Winter, indeed, is coming.

By this, of course, we mean Jon Snow, as the new series of Game of Thrones is nearly upon us - returning to our screens on Sunday April 12th.

To celebrate this fact, and because we've heard great things about this season being more about the kick-ass women from the fantasy series, we've selected our favourite magazines, as graced by the female stars.

From Emilia Clarke as the mother of dragons to Arya Stark, played by Maisie Williams, not forgetting her sister Sansa, played by Sophier Turner, as well as Natalie Dormer, Lena Headey and Gwendoline Christie, prepare yourself for the new season with these incredible covers.

Emilia Clarke

Glamour France, April 2014

To promote season four of Game of Thrones, Emilia graced the front cover of Glamour France, proving that GOT has transcended language to become a truly world-wide phenomenon. Here, she wore an array of mid-length dresses, motorcycle jackets and jewels, and was styled by Virginie Benarroch, who has also styled the likes of Diane Kruger.

VS magazine, February 2014

Edgy fashion magazine VS featured Emilia in an array of dark and moody pictures, a far cry from her platinum blonde looks as Khaleesi. Shot by legendary photographer Guy Aroch, the natural brunettte stunned in the cover and the shoot.

Marie Claire, April 2014

As part of Hollywood's new leading ladies series, Emilia was pictured as one of the new women to watch out for in the April issue of Marie Claire. In the interview she revealed that she used to work six jobs to pay the rent. When she got the call for the GOT audition she only had 24 hours to prepare and ended up having to call in sick. But she didn't know anything about the books, so she "Wikipedia-ed the crap out of it". But it must have worked as she won the part four days later.

Instyle, March 2014

While the actress was promoting her role in the fantasy series, she was also talking about her new role in the upcoming Terminator movie as the iconic character Sarah Connor. The star revealed that she couldn't "eat anything that might taste good". The actress was pictured in a Giles Deacon dress from his Spring 2014 collection and it was shot by photographer duo Sofia Sanchez and Mauro Mongiello.

Flare, April 2014

As with many of the previous covers, Emilia is spotted in some of the latest collections from the hottest and most respected designers. Here, she's in a pastel Burberry Prorsum ensemble for the cover of Flare, that came from the Spring 2014 collection season (Cara Delevingne wore this exact outfit on the catwalk fact fans). The photographer was Nino Muñoz, who has shot the likes of Kerry Washington, Gisele and Kate Hudson.

Vogue magazine, April 2015

This is Emilia Clarke's first ever Vogue cover. Shot by  fashion photographer Paolo Roversi and wearing Dior Haute Couture, the star looks just like her on-screen character Daenerys Targaryen, a marked difference from all her previous covers. Speaking about shooting the most recent series of GOT, the actress revealed that returning to set was "like coming home. Just the smell of the hotel in Belfast made me feel safe. I told myself, forget the big game plan; all I want is to do jobs that make me happy".

Sophie Turner

Phoenix magazine, April 2015

Sansa Stark, played by Sophie Turner, shines on this cover of UK magazine Phoenix. The actress is set to reprise her role of Sansa but this time she's going to have a bit more control. “She’s a powerful young woman now. Rather than being a pawn in everyone else’s game, she’s playing her own,” reveals the actress. Just one reason why we can't wait to watch her on screen again. For this cover she was shot by photographer Euan Danks who has also snapped the likes of Jamie Dornan.

Nylon Singapore, July 2014

Once again proving how popular the TV series has become, Sophie made it onto the front of Nylon's Singapore issue in July 2014. The actress, who talked about the many brutal killings of the characters talked about how she hoped it wouldn't also happen to her. “It would suck if Sansa got killed off because it means I’m out of a job! And I also really like the character and I like playing her. If I’m going to be killed off, I want a really dramatic death," said the star.

Natalie Dormer

Flare, December 2014

Natalie Dormer is most recognisable as Margaery Tyrell in GOT but she's now also become part of another huge hit - The Hunger Games in which she plays film director Cressida. For this magazine shoot, she was photographed by David Roemer, who has shot the covers of numerous magazines, such as Vogue and Harper's Bazaar.

Self, April 2015

Speaking to the fitness magazine Self, Natalie Dormer spoke about how physically demanding her role as Margaery Tyrell is, when she has to do 12-hour shoots. However, she always makes sure she has time to stay in shape. “When you work the unnatural hours that actors work, and when you fly as much as we do, you have to pay attention to your body—or else you’re a disaster ready to happen”.

Maisie Williams

Dazed, April 2015

Avant-garde fashion photographer Ben Toms shot this look for the cover of this month's Dazed featuring Maisie Williams, best known for her role as the feisty Arya Stark. The 17-year-old is just about to turn 18 and discusses feminism in the interview, as well as who she'd like to vote for. “I get a lot of adults who are like, ‘You don’t know shit,’ and it’s like, ‘You don’t know shit. You have no idea what it’s like to be 17 years old,’” says the actress. Maisie is wearing, rather fittingly, Vivienne Westwood and JW Anderson.

Lena Headey

ES magazine, August 2013

It's probably fair to say that this is the most hated woman in the whole of Westeros. While we love Lena Headey, her character Cersei Lannister is a manipulative and terrifying woman. For the cover of ES magazine, the Evening Standard's glossy, she's pictured without her trademark Cersei tumbling blonde locks and instead rocks her natural dark hair. She's wearing a sheer embellished Antonio Berardi gown.

Gwendoline Christie

Stylist, March 2013

As one of the most kick-ass women in GOT, we couldn't not feature Gwendoline Christie who plays the mighty Brienne of Tarth. Shot by photographer Rankin, Gwendoline is wearing a Paco Rabanne dress with Camilla Skovgaard shoes for the cover of this issue of Stylist. Take a look at the whole cover shoot here
