In its dizzying trajectory to global retail dominance, it was only a matter of time before Amazon took on the lucrative wedding market.

Now it’s done exactly that, rivalling the creative prowess of Etsy with a new virtual bridal store that showcases “unique, handcrafted items for your wedding day”.

The Wedding Shop is home to a broad selection of accessories, gifts, stationery and décor ideas.

It also has a section devoted to different types of weddings, from vineyard to garden, beach and rustic.

Eager brides and grooms-to-be can browse an eclectic range of bells and whistles that includes everything from bouquets of artificial hydrangeas and peonies, to shabby chic letter door hangers and floral hair crowns.

We’re particularly drawn to the “hats and veils” section, which serves a whole host of diverse demands. Taste is flagrantly disregarded with the his ‘n’ her wedding baseball caps, while beaded tassel veils and 20s cloches cater to the vintage market.

There’s even a Western wedding hat, for the bride who fancies channelling a cowboy theme.

It remains to be seen how much visibility local bridal companies will get in the store.

The store is currently available in the US but when it does land in the UK, Amazon Prime services mean this will be a godsend to the couple who realise – with just 24 hours to go – that they need an urgent shipment of cream wedding lanterns/personalised lights/silk bags for the guest favours.

In the meantime, most items are available for UK shipping. Scroll down to see a few of our favourite pieces.
