If there was one item, on and off the catwalks, that hit the spotlight this September, it was the trench coat. Don’t be fooled though, this wasn’t just any old trench coat, but rather a new and improved version.

Designers such as Erdem, JW Anderson and Michael Kors all served up iterations of the classic wardrobe staple on countless occasions, this time taking the traditional trench and reworking it with splices of checks, oversized sleeves, embroidered detail and even some designers just deconstructing the trench coat altogether.
