Barbie's not the only one having a makeover: introducing dad-bod Ken

We were all pretty hyped last week to learn that Mattel has finally realised women’s bodies weren’t all 6’ tall, emaciated and with ankles to skinny they would snap if ever put into action.

Bringing out their new range of four different Barbie body-types and skin types, with a cover on Time magazine, Mattel’s ‘Fashionista’ range acknowledged there was a demand for more realistic dolls.

But, as we all know, the patriarchy is not only damaging to women, it also puts pressure on men – and what man do you know that looks anything like Ken, with his wash-board stomach and perfectly chiselled jaw?

Soon enough, Twitter users – quick to sniff out inequality whenever it arises – started requesting that Ken have a makeover, with the hashtag #DadBodKen starting to make the rounds.

Shopping site, Lyst, teamed up with designer @jamiephillipstv to create the ‘Fashionisto’ range of Kens, which includes Beach Dad Bod Ken, Bearded Hipster Ken, and Balding Ken, as well as a petite Ken and more ethnically diverse kens.

The newly imagined Ken dolls reflect a range of masculine realities and fashion tastes that are a more realistic representation of modern manhood.

We think that Hipster Ken would just adore curvy Barbie and that petite Ken and Barbie would have adorable children.

Sadly, the imagined Ken dolls aren’t for sale, but the great news is you can shop all of their clothes.
