Remarkable Woman Awards 2019: the story behind Charli Howard’s priceless necklace

The model arrived at Stylist’s award show complete with her own security detail

It was like a scene lifted straight from Ocean’s Eight

Model and body positivity activist Charli Howard arrived at Stylist’s 2019 Remarkable Women Awards red carpet in an off-the-shoulder black gown with her hair slicked back in a bun. Around her neck was a glittering diamond necklace.

And trailing behind her was a security guard, protecting the jewels.

That is because it’s a priceless diamond piece that belongs to Sophia Loren, on loan for the model to wear to the awards ceremony for one night, and one night only.

Can you blame Loren from being so cautious?

The Italian actress was the victim of one of the UK’s biggest jewellery heists back in 1960, when £185,000 worth of diamonds, emeralds and rubies were stolen from her during the filming of the movie The Millionairess with Peter Sellers.

Sophia Loren

Howard must feel like Lady Gaga tonight, who walked the red carpet at the Oscars in a priceless diamond from the Tiffany & Co archives.

The yellow stone, which featured 82 facets and 128 carats, was last released from the vault to be worn by Audrey Hepburn in the promotional photoshoot for Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

There aren’t many occasions when you can wear a gorgeous diamond like Gaga’s one, or Sophia Loren’s necklace. But a red carpet awards show like the Oscars or Stylist’s Remarkable Women Awards are two of them.
