Five fresh beauty trends to try from Paris Fashion Week

The whirlwind of fashion month ends on a high in sweet Paris, where the spectacular Chanel waterfall stole the show, and the hiplet ballerinas left guests in awe at Moncler Gamme Rouge.

Backstage beauty was just as inspiring, with flushed rosy cheekbones, silver rhinestones on the hair and swishes of cobalt blue on the eyes.

Prepare to swoon; here are our five favourite #PFW trends to try out for SS18…

Wet Look Hair

“Caught in a storm” was the inspiration behind the wet distressed hair ‘do at Vivienne Westwood. Sam McKnight prepped the hair with A LOT of spray and pulled it across the face to create the wild look. For a more contained version, take inspiration from Alexander McQueen (above), where hair was slicked down to the face in strands and secured under a necklace.

Dazzling Stones

A demure take on glitter? Swarovski crystals were individually applied in either a liner line across the eyelids and lips, or down the strong side parting at Dries Van Noten (above). So chic, we love it. For a simpler, classic take, legendary make-up artist Pat McGrath applied one rhinestone under the eyes at Givenchy to make those peepers pop.

Bold Colour Splashes

From holographic pink as seen at Andre Walker to a rosy hue at Valentino, washes of colour across the eyelids are big for SS18. Opt for a cream eyeshadow and dab on to the lids, temples and cheekbones to create this whimsical look. If you’re feeling brave try a cobalt blue powder shadow from the lash line to the brow bone, as spotted at Chanel (above).

Natural Blush

A drenched glow and natural blush has dominated the catwalk for SS18, and Paris was no exemption. Make-up artist Alex Box introduced us to a revolutionary technique to create this look – simply apply a rosy lipstick to the fleshy part of your palm and press onto the apples of your cheek. The result is a pretty flush “on the verge of arousal”, as seen at Veronique Leroy (above) and Issey Miyake.

To get an all-over glow, prep your skin with Darphin Hydraskin serum – the perfect base for a lightweight foundation.

Abstract nails

If you’re in need of some inspiration for your next manicure, look no further than Vivienne Westwood. Nail guru Marian Newman created a colourful, playful set of nails (each hand-painted), which were inspired by child-like brush strokes. “The look is so easy to create, simply brush from the bottle and swish all over the nail,” Newman says. So simple, but so effective.
