Screen legend Helen Mirren hits the catwalk for L’Oreal Paris

Helen Mirren cut a striking figure today, as she sauntered down an open-air runway in the Champs-Elysée for L’Oreal Paris.

A crowd of around 300,000 Parisians watched appreciatively as the Oscar-winning actor, 72,  brought her customary swagger to the 60-metre long catwalk in the heart of the French capital.

As the face of L’Oreal’s Age Perfect moisturiser range, Mirren is a long-time ambassador for the French beauty house – a role which she embraces with typical irreverence.

“I’m an eternal optimist,” the Hollywood power player remarked recently. “I know that when I put my moisturiser on it probably does f**k all… but it just makes me feel better.”

Mirren was joined by singer Cheryl, 34, another L’Oreal face who worked her runway prowess for the show-stopping extravaganza.

And then, of course, there was Jane Fonda.

At 79, the actor and fitness icon was a walking advertisement for her workout wisdom, as she strolled casually down the runway in a zebra-print dress.

“After I turned 60, I began to understand who I was, and I became young again,” the star said recently. “Now I'm in sight of my 80th birthday and feeling pretty good about life!"

Fonda threw peace signs to the thousands of fans who watched her do her thing, and stopped for an impromptu embrace with none other than Naomi Campbell:

Eighteen fashion houses – including emerging and established brands - showcased at the event, titled Le Défilé L’Oréal Paris.

Backstage, celebrated make-up artist and L’Oreal creative director Val Garland and her team worked with military precision to create 70 different looks.

Celebrities were accompanied by some of the modelling world’s hottest talent, including Winnie Harlow, Neelam Gill, Doutzen Kroes and Maria Borges.

Traffic in central Paris came to a standstill for the spectacle, billed as the greatest fashion show on earth.
