Julien Macdonald unveils stunning £4 million diamond wedding dress

A £4 million wedding dress embroidered with real diamond and fresh water pearls was the pièce de résistance of Julien Macdonald's SS15 collection at London Fashion Week this afternoon.

Unveiling the gown on the makeshift catwalk at the Royal Opera House, the Welsh designer explained that a lovelorn mermaid - and Kim Kardashian - were the inspirations behind his spring/summer 2015 collection.

“She lives in a tropical sea with flowers and jumping fish and she lures a tattooed man to the bottom of the ocean,” he said. “So the dresses are a mix of tattoos and flowers, with fabrics that really hold and accentuate the body.”

He said that the £4 million wedding dress represented the mermaid turning buried treasure into her "dream ethereal wedding dress - diamonds, pearls, expense, lace, glamour."

“It’s the most important day of a woman’s life and why not have the most expensive dress in the world?” he added.

And the Kardashian reference?

“The bum is the new it thing,” the designer told Wales Online. “It was boobs, but now it’s the bum, so if you have one - show it off!

“It’s been enforced slightly by Kim Kardashian and this really is the year of the bottom.”

Abbey, Clancy, Laura Whitmore and stars of Made in Chelsea were among the FROW stars at his show.
