Let me preface this article by saying that I am absolutely, unconditionally and irrevocably a millennial. And if there’s one thing we millennials know how to do well, it’s a quarter-life crisis.

As I get older and move into my mid-30s, I find myself in the depths of a self-discovery journey where I’m beginning to reassess my personal style and reconsider all the things I thought I could and couldn’t wear. I think back to me in my teens and 20s, who felt way too self-conscious to ever indulge in any of the trends around at the time. It’s not like the Urban Outfitters mirrors or the ill-sized Tammy Girl trousers and skirts helped matters, either.

Now, as a thirty-something millennial who is a size 12, 14, 16 or 18, depending on which store I’m in, I’m seeing the same trends I avoided like the plague creep back into viral territory. I guess feeling triggered by this might just mean it’s time for some healing.

So, facing the problem head-on, I’ve decided that after years of conforming and dressing how I think I should, I’m throwing away the style rule book and diving head-first into some of my favourite Gen Z loved fashion trends. More importantly, I’m ready to see if the high street has made any progress in providing options that cater to my curvy body so I’m able to partake.
