Fashion and lifestyle brand Hush has long been dedicated to laid-back style, inspired by the attitude of Aussie founder Mandy Watkins and the energy of its hometown, London. The new Hush collection launches this week and is a showcase of brilliantly practical, gorgeously oversized casualwear and contemporary partywear. Very dressed down and laid back with real fashion excitement but still elevated, the collection is everything you want to wear this winter. The design team has reimagined things from the archives and focused on the brand’s founding vision – to appeal to women seeking effortless, laid-back style.

Watkins says: “I’m obviously proud of how far we’ve come over the past 20 years, but I’m even more excited about the future and the chance to introduce new generations of women to Hush’s easy style and easy-going approach to life. I’ve always believed that looking good is an intrinsic part of feeling good (and vice-versa), and our new identity captures this spirit perfectly, reflecting my own experience as an Aussie transplanted into this constantly challenging and inspiring city.”

“I particularly love the Jayde blazer, Hattie T-shirt and silver leather trousers from the collection. I love them worn together as an outfit but can see myself wearing all three pieces in a million different ways. The blazer is a beautiful cut and fabric, oversized enough to layer things under when it’s cold but not so big it swamps you. I live in white tees and love the fabric and slightly longer length sleeve of Hattie and the metallic, silver leather trousers speak for themselves.”

The reworked collection is unapologetically practical and laid-back but still fashion-forward: roomy, ankle-grazing wool coats; slouchy cord trousers that come in cream and navy are a great alternative to jeans; and the metallic trousers and pleated skirts are easily dressed up or down – perfect for party season. There are also everyday pieces, including voluminous jeans, cargo trousers, oversized faded sweatshirts and smart knits.

Melissa Dick, Hush’s chief creative officer. notes, “Hush’s founding vision was ahead of its time: style that is deliberately dressed down but with fashion attitude, and an authentic spirit that advocates for joy, spontaneity and taking a moment to be present and actually experience life. These ideas are even more relevant and potent to women today than they were back in 2003.”

The team had a careful look at fabrics and made a step-change in the cashmere and wools in particular. “To get slouchy silhouettes on tailored jackets they have to be good quality fabric and double-faced,” Dicks adds. The camel double-faced jacket in Italian fabric comes in a contemporary, oversized silhouette but is premium enough to add polish to low-key evening looks.
