While it takes all sorts of fabrics to make up a wardrobe – cosy cotton, loose-fitting linen and wonderfully warm wool are just a handful that spring to mind – denim is often the unsung hero that sees us through the day. Until, that is, the recent fashion week circuit kicked off and denim became quite the statement-making style.

Fendi stuck to structured denim two-pieces, Diesel delivered oversized denim shirts and trousers, and over in Copenhagen, Skall Studio, Marimekko and Stine Goya all made denim designs a statement in their autumn/winter collections. However, instead of peppering the sturdy fabric throughout separate looks – a pair of jeans here or a denim jacket there – more is more was the clear styling memo, with double, triple and even quadruple denim looks landing with a bang on the catwalk.
