Today (Friday 1 November) Virgil Abloh’s IKEA collaboration finally lands in store.

The collaboration between Swedish megastore, IKEA and cooler than cool streetwear brand Off-White was first announced over a year ago. Since then we have been teased with product images, videos and information at every corner of the collaboration, only whetting our appetite for what is surely the most hyped collaboration of the decade even further.

The hotly-anticipated collection, named “MARKERAD” is designed by Virgil Abloh (the creative director to his own brand Off-White and artistic director for Louis Vuitton menswear) and utilises his background as a trained architect. Tying together his love of art and design, many of the pieces in the collection bear his trademark quotation mark signifiers that we have been accustomed to seeing on his clothing - such as “TEMPORARY” on the clock, “SCULPTURE” on the oversized brown shopping bags and “WET GRASS” on the green turf-looking rug.

It’s not only the pieces in the collection that have undergone Off-White treatment, for the first time ever the IKEA logo has been transformed to, “IKEA” with those trademark to give to store a real sense of occasion.

Much like everything else Abloh touches, the demand for the collection is so real that the store have had to put numerous systems in place including a ticketing scheme that sees the World’s comfiest queue come to life. Featuring sofas, armchairs, blankets and cushion the queue will be made up of fabs that have already been through a rigorous raffling system in order to win a spot to buy a piece of the collection (no, really it’s that in demand).

IKEA and Virgil Abloh create the world's comfiest queue.

For those who haven’t managed to get a ticket to either IKEA Wembley or Dublin IKEA, the collection will not be available to buy directly online (probably for fear of crashing the entire internet), but like many other Off-White collaborations the chance of re-sale is high. In fact, one of the rugs from the collection that looked a lot like a Persian-style rug with “KEEP OFF” embossed over the pattern in white, was released early and is currently on sale for over 10 times the original retail price.

IKEA "KEEP OFF" rug's resale value is almost ten time sit's original retail value.

However, with more products available this time round the chances of a more reasonable resale is likely and for those who have managed to secure a spot in the coveted queue, you’ve already won. To the rest of us, good luck.
