Stylist's fashion director Alexandra Fullerton pays tribute to one of the fashion world's brightest luminaries

One of London Fashion Week's brightest talents, the designer Richard Nicoll, died yesterday aged 39.

Having studied at Central St Martins, Nicoll launched his label on the catwalk in 2006 and his designs were worn by Sienna Miller, Keira Knightley and Florence Welsh. His signature style was cool, easy clothes that didn't try too hard but looked impeccably edgy and always fashionable without being over the top.

It was a joy to shoot them in Stylist and also wear them myself and he was a personal favourite for many fashion editors. As well as his own label, Nicoll consulted for Louis Vuitton and was creative director for Cerruti, Fred Perry and Jack Wills.

Currently living in Australia, he was about to start a new role at Adidas and was working with Woolmark.

As tributes poured in from the fashion world yesterday, it was clear that Nicoll will be remembered for not only his incredible talent but also his modesty, charm and kindness.
