Chung is currently curating her latest collection for US denim label AG (Alexa Chung for AG), inspired by American girl gangs - with a bit of quintessential Brit corduroy thrown in ("I just can’t help myself," she says).

The diffusion line is allowing Chung to warm up to launching her very own fashion collection.

"It seems scary," she says. "But everything else has been scary, in hindsight. It’s just that I didn’t have time to think about it. I need to revisit that attitude and get on with it. Everything doesn’t have to be perfect, I’ve realised. You can learn as you go."

The former TV presenter says she became more philosophical about things after turning 30 last year.

"I got more relaxed about things," she says. "It’s as though you are a book and you’re getting through the story and it’s OK. But you’re anticipating this thing happening, which I think came from fear-mongering by magazines: 'What’s going to happen when I’m 30? Do I grow an arm or do something weird?’ Then I saw this Patti Smith thing on YouTube where she says, 'Life is a journey. There are going to be ups and downs and that’s what makes it colourful and interesting.’ So now I’m like, 'Oh, it’s always a bit twisty, so enjoy the moment. Seize the day. Carpe diem.'"
