Meghan Markle adorned a stunning green necklace on the final day the royal tour in New Zealand.

Throughout the royal tour of New Zealand, Meghan Markle has subtly used fashion as a tool to voice her views and show respect. And her latest accessory follows suit.

Which is why at first glance, Meghan’s necklace looks like a simple green adornment. However, as we all know by now the Duchess thinks twice about everything she wears. Case in point: her navy dress.

While stepping out for the final day of the royal tour, Meghan wore the green necklace against a simple navy dress. And as it turns out, the necklace holds a lot of significance for the people of New Zealand.

The stone is called a Pounama, which is only found in the South Island of New Zealand, and is a valued stone that has spiritual significance.

The necklace is from leading Maori designer, Kiri Nathan, and was carved by Jason Nathan. It was gifted to Markle by New Zealand Governor General Patsy Reddy.

According to the designer’s website, each piece holds it’s own mana (integrity and strength). Interestingly, Pounamu is traditionally handed down as a valued heirloom or given as a gift to affirm relationships, peace and love.

Earlier this week, Meghan pleased the people of New Zealand by speaking in their native tongue, and she also championed feminism in her speech.
