These designer sandals flew off the shelves after the Duchess of Sussex gave them the royal seal of approval – but now they’re back in stock…
Long before her wedding to Prince Harry, Meghan Markle made headlines with her white LINE coat, cross-body bag and ripped jeans and ‘boyfriend shirt’ combo – and things have only gotten more intense since her royal nuptials. Indeed, every single item she wears seems to sell out almost instantly, with fans clamouring to get in on the so-called “Meghan effect”.
It’s a fashion phenomenon which has prompted Lyst to slot the Duchess of Sussex into fourth place as one of the world’s most influential style stars – and encouraged us to pay very close attention to her outfits. Which is probably why so many people have been taking note of Meghan’s shoes over the past few months.
As previously reported by Stylist, Meghan’s eco-friendly trainers (which you can buy for £115) were named the world’s hottest shoes. And, shortly after the royal stepped out in a pair of leather ballet pumps, the stylish flat shoes flew off the shelves and saw a whopping 25,000 people sign up to a waiting list.
Now, though, the world has turned its attention to Meghan’s summer sandals. Because… well, because the sun is shining, the weather is warmer, and ‘tis the season to dress in strappy leather sandals, of course.
A long-time fan of Sarah Flint, Meghan has been spotted wearing a number of different designs from Flint’s shoe collection over the years (those ballet pumps we just mentioned? Flint!).
However, if we pressed Meghan to name her favourite from the collection, we have a feeling the answer would come easily to her: after all, she has been a repeat wearer of the Grear Sandal for a very long time – since before she even met Prince Harry, in fact.
Is it any wonder, then, that the summery shoe has been stubbornly out of stock for months on end? Until now, that is…
That’s right: the Meghan-approved sandal are finally back in stock and available for £188.73. And it’s easy to see why she’s such a fan, too: the shoes are crafted from Italian Vachetta calf leather and feature soft cotton ties, which Flint promises will “never cause friction and can be easily cleaned”.
“I have always been fascinated by gladiator sandals and their Grecian history. I am constantly looking to create a harmonious balance of comfort and style and Grecian sandals offer both of these traits,” said Flint, when asked about the inspiration behind the shoe’s design.
“I created the Grear as my modern take on this timeless style. The adjustable ties are perfect for keeping your feet secure, but the silhouette is eye-catching and elongating.”
Meghan has, as previously mentioned, been wearing these sandals for years. However, she was most recently spotted wearing the sandals at two different events while on her royal tour of Australia in October, according to People, and wore them last year at the Audi Polo Cup, too.
While the duchess favours the saddle-coloured option, fans of this comfortable and stylish sandal will no doubt be pleased to learn it is available in three other colour options, too: black, white, and a very regal gold.
If you want to get your mitts on any of them, though, we recommend that you’re quick about it – with the ‘Meghan effect’ still in full swing, we can’t imagine they’ll be around for long.
