A suit is the way to step in to the New Year in serious style…

If you’re one of these people that plans their party outfits well in advance, it’s likely you’ll already have your New Year’s Eve outfit practically laid out on the bed ready and waiting. But, if you’re still only concerned about what festive treats are around (hello, Terry’s Chocolate Orange) then an outfit can be last on your end of year “to do” list. Of course you can opt for a sequin dress or the jeans and nice top combo we all rely on, but we’re here to tell you it’s all about the suit.

Not just for office wear and interviews, the suit has a whole new meaning–and in our eyes, and the street style set alike, it means party time.

So, how do you style a suit for evening? Below we’ve made an edit of the 5 suit trends that’ll make you want to try it out–be prepared to put your best foot forward for 2019.

1) All black

Forget the LBD for a moment, it’s all about the black suit. Effortlessly stylish, it will go with any top and accessories you team with. Best part? It looks instantly New-Year-Ready with a simple slick of red lipstick a la Camille Charriere.

Note: strappy heels instead of courts takes it firmly away from workwear territory.

2) Sleek satin

If you don’t want to wear shiny sequins, then a shiny suit is the perfect alternative. It will basically do all the talking, so you can keep it simple with minimal accessories, or go OTT with bauble earrings and a beaded bag.

Either way, this Matériel peach suit is so dreamy you’ll wear it again, and again, and…you get the picture.

3) Luxe velvet

Party season is all about luxurious textures and fabrics that look instantly premium, so velvet is a must-have. What other way to soften up suiting than with a belted blazer and wide leg trousers? Influencer Sophia opts for the & Other Stories emerald number, but we also love the rich burgundy M.i.j Jeans version below.

Tip: metallics compliment glossy velvety fabrics so go for a golden top or mules to complete the look.

4) Perfect prints

We’ve all been loving the checked blazer of late, but for party season it’s all about switching the trusty daytime style for an evening-appropriate jacquard print.

The ever stylish Babba styles hers with a classic white blouse, and colour-pop accessories to let the suit take centre stage–we’ll be following suit (pun intended).

5) Cool colour-block

Style star Freddie Harrel is the Queen of statement suits–she shows us all how to work bright hues by keeping it tonal with the same colour top. Style this pink Stella McCartney new season style with a slightly darker pink cami top to get the vibe. Trust us, and your New Year’s Eve outfit will reign supreme.

Note: add red heels and a silver bag for a clash that works.
