We're half way through NYFW and so much has happened already. The weekend saw many exciting shows including Tommy Hilfiger, Derek Lam, Calvin Klein and Diane von Furstenberg, we can't wait to see what the next fews days has in store for us. To keep you up to date Stylist's Fashion Assistant, Morag Paterson, has picked her favourites runway looks so far. Take note now - these are the trends you'll be wearing come Autumn...
OSCAR DE LA RENTA - Day 8
Indian embellishments and intricate embroidery were the highlights of the Oscar de la Renta show.
PROENZA SCHOULER - Day 8
Inspired by a road trip to Santa Fe, Proenza’s autumn/winter collection features geometric prints and primary bright colours.
MARCHESA - Day 8
Marchesa cements the lace trend for autumn / winter 2011. Paired with nude chiffon makes the look more contemporary.
REED KRAKOFF - Day 8
Although Reed Krakoff’s signature staple is outerwear, we love the sheer yet vibrant colour of this look with the wrap around skirt detailing.
MICHAEL KORS - Day 8
The high split offsets the minimal grey colour palette and simple clean lines at Michael Kors.
ELIE TAHARI - Day 7
Dramatic layering is key at Elie Tahari. Opaque tights are matched to the colour of the outfit.
RODARTE - Day 7
Laura and Kate Mulleavy’s collection was inspired by the American countryside with their beautiful long floating dresses embellished with meadow prints at the hem.
DIANE VON FURSTENBERG - Day 4
Anything but minimal, DVF’s signature bold prints are back (but not as vibrant as usual). Featuring darker hues of black, burgundy and deep violet, the collection channels a more wearable vibe.
VICTORIA BECKHAM - Day 4
VB's signature fitted dresses come in a saffron yellow and vibrant red for autumn / winter. The pleated detailing and subtle folds of the neckline make this dress our stand-out favourite. Make note of the specially made Christian Louboutin boots.
PREEN - Day 4
The geometric prints of summer are being reinvented in muted tones by Preen for winter. Breaking up with block colour makes the look more wearable.
TORY BURCH - Day 4
Forget American preppy dressing, Tory Burch looked across the pond for her inspiration. An English countryside vibe was the overall theme.
DEREK LAM - Day 4
Uncannily reminiscent of Chloé's SS11 ballet-inspired look, Lam opts for a floaty floor-skimming dress with a structured upper half.
DEREK LAM - Day 4
Lam brings back the Tartan check for autumn / winter.
DKNY - Day 4
Mixing block bright print and an oversized burnt orange cape coat, DKNY’s winter collection is exactly what we want to wear come autumn.
MAX AZRIA - Day 4
The clean simple lines of masculine tailoring were injected with a hint of femininity at Max Azria.
ALEXANDER WANG - Day 3
Wang triumphs season after season with sporty influences on chic tailoring. The straight pockets, dove-grey with a flash of bright colour and sleek-cut lapels of this look are divine.
ADAM - Day 3
Adam Lippes's autumn / winter collection contains subtle American Indian references. Our favourite look features a chunky knit dress with feather detailing and touches of gold sequins at the hem.
ALTUZARRA - Day 3
Joseph Altuzarra contrasted the casual khaki parka with long silk feminine evening dresses. The opposing masculine versus feminine detailing is genius.
PRABAL GURUNG - Day 3
Prabal Gurung's ultra-flattering tailored-meets-flared trousers are top of our wish list. Styled with long leather gloves, an embellished top and loose hair is a workwear triumph.
VIVIENNE TAM - Day 3
Tam's collection was inspired by Chinese Opera. Structured jackets were accentuated with sculpted winged shoulders paired with tailored cropped trousers.
G-STAR - Day 3
Wearability was the central theme at G-Star. Although the signature denim was a big focus, our favourite look was this oversized sleeveless coat with a peak of plaid shirt and bright red ankle boots.
JILL STUART -Day 3
Summer's colour blocking gets updated with an autumnal colour pallette at Jill Stuart.
RAG & BONE - Day 3
Rag & Bone's colour block knits give winter dressing a colourful twist. Referencing 1970s ski wear, we cannot wait to wear the ribbed leggings and lace-up boots after a day on the slopes.
JASON WU - Day 2
Lace has been big news at the New York shows. Cleverly, Jason Wu has used it to embellish the arm sleeves of his structured outerwear for a ladylike accent.
PETER SOM - Day 2
Peter Som has opted for a more practical, wearable aesthetic. Our favourite look was an orange cinched-waist suit with cuffed cigarette trousers worn with muted green kitten heels.
BCBGMAXAZRIA - Day 1
The ballet trend of summer gets a gothic update at BCBGMAXAZRIA. Polo necks are used to take the look into Winter.
RICHARD CHAI LOVE - Day 1
Chai’s key look featured a neutral tweed coat draped over a muted grey silk maxi dress. Cleverly, a hint of floral lifts the look.
VENA CAVA - Day 1
Designers Lisa Mayock and Sophie Bahai have brought back the 1990s with wide leg billowing trousers and chic crop tops.
CHRISTIAN SIRIANO - Day 1
Siriano has triumphed this season with his sharp clean-lined tailoring layered over dark sheers. Tough studded accessories are key to this look.
ST. JOHN - Day 1
Floor skimming lengths return for next season. St. John uses a waist belt to highlight the silhouette.
GARY GRAHAM - Day 1
Printed silks were a focal point at Gary Graham, continuing on from spring / summer’s oriental opulence trend.
ORGANIC BY JOHN PATRICK - Day 1
The relaxed sporty look is re-invented with a leather A-line skirt at Organic by Patrick John.
