White broderie lace and glorious summer sunshine goes together like… well, like strawberries and cream (just be sure to keep those sticky berries away from our white broderie lace, yeah?).
So it should come as no surprise to learn that when River Island launched their long-sleeved broderie beach gown, it went down an absolute storm on Instagram – particularly with fashion bloggers.
Check it out:
Thanks to its button-down design, the long-sleeved gown is incredibly versatile: some have been wearing it as a beach cover-up, others as a chic evening gown, and a few savvy fashionistas have even layered it up over jeans (because, hey, it’s the UK and summer is always a little dicey).
Unfortunately, though, the boho frock proved so bloody popular that it sold out almost immediately – inspiring the high-street store to whip up another batch, just in time for July.
We’ve been assured: “We’re bringing it back as an online exclusive on Tuesday 4 July for just £55.”
And so they did – only, somewhat annoyingly, a River Island spokeswoman has now informed us that every last dress sold out within the hour of being restocked.
To quote Winnie the Pooh: “Bother.”
We guess we’ll just have to get off of our computers and go rifling through the shelves at our nearest River Island store (where, we’re assured, the dresses are still in stock).
The ‘Hesse’ gown doesn’t have buttons running all the way down it, sadly (although, speaking from experience, some bigger-busted ladies may prefer things that way), but the basic principle is the same.
According to the product description, it “features contrasting panels of lace, floral embroidery and cut-outs, and is detailed with a few delicate buttons at the nape”.
Or, in other words, it’s long, dangerously white (is it just us who drinks red wine?) and fantastically floaty.
“Make white embroidered dresses work in the summer by teaming them with braided hair, straw hats and neutral sandals,” the product description advises.
