The best capsule wardrobe for a weekend away wouldn't be complete without a swimsuit or bikini, and now's the time to pick a favourite and place your order.

Whether your perfect sunshine holiday involves reading the latest bestseller while you relax on a sun lounger in Greece, swimming laps in a pool in the south of France, or partying at a beach-front club in Ibiza, there are classic swimsuits and bikinis that will see you through this summer and beyond, and others which nod to this season's big trends – like ruffles, crop tops and off-the-shoulder bardot necklines (so-called as the style was made famous by Brigitte Bardot, pictured above).

Come see our favourite picks from this season's collections.

  • Making waves

This sporty Seafolly cossie was made for swimming or lounging, and just the ticket for beach-based sports, too.

  • Sunny side up

This simple strapless bikini by Marysia Swim steals the show thanks to its pretty scalloped edge detailing. The top also has subtle boning at the sides to provide extra support.

    Top, £120,

    Bottoms, £125,

  • Cut it out

This bright, floral swimsuit by Mara Hoffman would go well with a wide-brimmed sun hat and a poolside cocktail.

  • Take the plunge

This colour-block swimsuit comes with a flattering plunging neckline and side cut-outs to add interest.
