Shopping mall in Philippines forced to pull 'rape excusing' t-shirt

Published

A shopping mall in the Philippines has been forced to remove a t-shirt that justifies rape.

The offending item had the words "It's not rape, it's a snuggle with a struggle" written across the front, which shockingly was being stocked in the boys section of SM Supermalls - the Philippines' biggest mall operator.

Facebook user Karen Kunawicz originally posted up an image of the t-shirt on her Facebook wall yesterday morning. The post drew over 178 comments and has been shared by thousands.

Not only did angry commenters post their thoughts on Facebook under the original picture but many also took to Twitter to voice their concerns over the fact the store was stocking such a highly-inappropriate t-shirt.

As a result of the post going viral, as well as many alerting the store to its problem on social media, the mall subsequently withdrew it from their stores.

In a statement SM Supermalls said they had been previously unaware of the item and they would be pulling it off their shelves immediately.

Finally, they said that they would be "taking appropriate action to ensure this does not happen again".

However, there is concern that there is no real understanding of where the garment was made, as the Boys Night Out brand, initially thought to be behind the t-shirt has denied it comes from their collection.

Karen, the author of the original post on Facebook, has put out a call to action to discover who is behind the item.

Stylist.co.uk has contacted SM Supermalls for a comment on their supplier of the shirt and are waiting on further information.
