From the V&A’s Hollywood Costume to Chanel’s Little Black Jacket at the Saatchi, London has plenty of excellent fashion exhibitions to keep you entertained this Autumn.
Well clear your diary once again – as we’ve found a free, must-see fashion exhibition, that feeds fashion’s recent appetite for sportswear-inspired looks. Sneaking Into Fashion documents the reinvention of the trainer from humble sport shoe into high fashion and high art, from the very first pair of designer sneakers (Gucci in the 1980s), to Beyonce’s heeled Isabel Marants.
As well as some covetable high fashion footwear, iconic trainers from pop culture will also be on display – so you can bask in the glory of Mo Farah’s medal-winning track shoes, marvel at Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood’s punk-inspired pair, and go on a nineties nostalgia trip with Mel B’s infamous Buffalo platforms.
Sneaking into Fashion will open to the public for free from 18th-28th October from 9am-7pm at the Covent Garden Piazza, thanks to online shoe retailers Javari.co.uk. Can’t make it to the capital? Javari will be showing a virtual tour of the exhibition on their website on the same dates.
We’ve been offered a sneak preview of the line-up of trainers in the exhibition – so whether you’re a sneaker aficionado with a cupboard of well-worn Nikes, or you just invested in your first pair of Ash wedge trainers, take a look at some of the most iconic trainers in the world below.
