The Hambledon

Bernard Boutique

Room 7
Inspired by the success of Brown’s boutique in London, Carol Bradbury open Room 7 back in 1981 as the choice destination for designer ladieswear in Leeds. Today it boasts of a wide collection of wearable separates from Joseph and Alexander Wang, as well as an agency that buys and sells pre-owned designer bags and accessories

The Goodhood Store
Ensconced near London’s trendy Hoxton Square, The Goodhood Store is a favourite for those fans of minimalist fashion and design-focused accessories, with beautifully tailored Antipodium shirts sitting alongside rainbow coloured Comme Des Garcons wallets. The store has a natty website too.

Bottega
This eclectic boutique has all the chintz and charm of a true Cheshire boutique. Snack at the in-house Birdcage café before browsing the store’s stellar denim collection from the likes of Wildfox and Donna Ida

Poste Mistress
An interesting offshoot from sister brand Office, Poste Mistress prides itself on stocking uber-lux yet affordable footwear. Labels in-store include Robert Clergerie and Minna Parikka (it’s the only London stockist) as well as cult classics from Acne and Brit favourite Grenson

Hannah Zakari
Named after the Japanese term for blooming, Hannah Zakari is a warm and friendly Edinburgh boutique that specialises in quirky handmade jewellery and has a roster of some of the UK’s best independent jewellery designers (we’re currently coveting the maximalist pieces by Louise Pringle for Ecelectic Shock). Blooming marvellous we say.

WilliamVintage
A favourite of the celebrity crowd, William Vintage has one of the country’s finest selections of vintage haute couture. 1920s Chanel flapper dresses are flanked by iconic Ossie Clark and Yves Saint Laurent creations, showing owner William Banks-Blaney’s magpie-like eye for timeless classics.

Pollyanna
Closeted in an old Georgian townhouse is one Yorkshire’s oldest fashion boutiques. Now in its 46th year, Pollyanna excels in low-key separates: indulge in a buttery soft Rick Owens leather jacket or a cocoon summer shift from the in-house label Nomad.

HUB
The Hub is one of north London’s most loved boutiques, with a brother branch catering for men down the road. Though it boasts of a healthy smattering of European brands – Acne, Swedish Hasbeens, YMC – it’s the young London labels that is the biggest draw

Zapatos
Nestled within the historic town of Knutsford, Zapatos is a small family-run business that excels in quality Italian footwear. Customers are invited to relax on plush leather sofas or road-test shoes on the shop’s walnut ‘catwalk’ while sales assistants tend to your every need.

Couverture
Emily Dyson’s Couverture operates a ‘strictly independent’ policy – eschewing mainstream brands for womenswear pieces from young up-and-coming labels. The scandi-aesthetic rules here, with sexy boyfriend shirts from Steven Alan and rock-and-roll tailoring from Rachel Comey (a favourite of David Bowie)

DARKROOM
The geometric interior of this Bloomsbury accessories boutique betrays the flavour of its jewellery pieces: bold, colourful and conversation starters. It’s not all gold and silver trinkets, though – owners have a particular soft spot for African art and textiles so keep an eye out for these covetable pieces

The Editeur
The e-store might be every fashion insider’s guilty pleasure but The Editeur’s flagship Chester boutique every bit as addictive. Housed in a Tudor-style building, it’s the huge range of sizes and styles in their lingerie collection that really make it worth the visit.

The Dressing Room
The Dressing Room has always been a loved for it’s understated yet fashion forward collections, thanks to the clever team of buyers and retail experts behind it. The boutique’s biggest USP is undoubtedly its collection of premium denim, stocking everything from J Brand and Hudson jeans to Paige Denim and Current/Elliott

Jules B
Institutions in the north, the three Jules B boutiques are synonymous with luxury staples, cleverly mixing young brands such as MSGM and Hoss Intropia, with more established names

Club
Lara Bohinc, Alex Monroe, Tom Ford Eyewear – Club might have a healthy spread of contemporary designer labels, but it’s their stellar roster of accessory brands that really catches the eye. An attentive in-house personal styling team also adds little extra sparkle to the experience.

Changing Room
Changing Room has long been the choice destination for Kent’s bright young things, this boutique has a razor sharp focus on daywear and accessories, with pieces from Marni, Lanvin and Chloe. The buyers’ soft spot for Isabel Marant already has us in thrall

The Village Bicycle
The wares at this Notting Hill boutique are just as tongue-in-cheek as the name: filled with kitsch 90s ephemera, expect staples from House of Hackney, Mark Fast and sequin king Ashish. Their blog is a fun read too.

Browns
This venerable boutique on South Molton street is one of London's most historic and important fashion boutiques, having been an early champion of Alexander McQueen and John Galliano. With a smart edit of each season's latest trends, the store has a sister branch, Browns Focus, which targets a younger style-savvy market

LN-CC
Tucked away in a basement on Dalston’s Shacklewell Lane is the underground boutique LN-CC. “This isn’t a walk in off the street. We wanted to keep the store as tight and special as possible” says co-founder Dan Mitchell. Through the futuristic tunnel entrance, you’ll find a space curated with directional pieces from Haider Ackerman and Central St Martins graduates

Square
Split over two floors, this Bath boutique has quickly built up a reputation for spotting the latest must-have designer labels. Where the ground floor offers more affordable brands, head upstairs for your Acne and Alexander McQueen fix

Feathers
Before Browns, the Burstein fashion dynasty had Feathers. Today, the Knightsbridge boutique houses a curated collection of pieces the brightest young British talent and is a good one for spotting the next big thing in fashion

Coggles
Since opening in the 1970s, Coggles has always been a progressive boutique, with it’s unisex changing rooms and named after the founder’s husband’s mistress, it’s still raising eyebrows – but for all the right reasons. Expect rails to be stocked with some of the best urban wares, including selections from Sessun, Sophie Hulme and Victoria Beckham

Pam Jenkins
One of the UK’s best designer footwear boutiques, Pam Jenkins knows how to spot what’s going to be shaping the footwear trends each season, as well as stocking Brit classics like Rupert Sanderson and Pretty Ballerinas. It’s small but well worth sharpening those elbows for.

Garment Quarter
Launched three years ago, Garment Quarter has quickly established itself as a hub for stocking some of the best international diffusion brands and accessories labels, including the Victoria, Victoria Beckham and Comme Des Garcons PLAY lines

Oxygen Boutique
Leave behind the noise and hullabaloo of Oxford Street and nip down to the Oxygen Boutique, where founder Joanna Nicola is known for sourcing those hard-to-find US labels - think Zimmermann and Mara Hoffman

With outposts in Ginza and New York, this London design boutique (brainchild of Commes des Garcons founder Rei Kawakubo) stretches over an impressive six floors and is peppered with design-led pieces from Delfina Dellatrex, CdG and Husam el Odeh

Lissom & Muster
You might not always have the time for country pursuits but drop into Lissom & Muster and you’ll certainly have the kit. Ditch the Barbour and treat yourself to one of their chic Fjällräven wax jackets or a comforting cashmere scarf from Wallace Sewell. We won’t tell if you don’t.

Flannels has been doing business for over 35 years in Manchester’s city centre and has helped to cement its reputation as one of the UK fashion capitals. For summer 2013, customers can expect fresh offerings from Marcus Lupfer and McQueen, as well as an impressive selection of designer footwear

With eight sister branches, it’s the Glasgow original that’s is still our favourite shopping destination.
