Supreme are king of collaborations and this one might be their biggest of the year. But, says Stylist’s fashion writer Billie Bhatia, it will come at a price…
We talk about hyped collaborations a lot (or at least I do), but what does that actually mean? I’ll tell you. It means an incredibly exclusive, limited-edition piece of something (usually pretty expensive) that people will literally clamber over themselves to get.
Why on earth would we do this? So that we can hold a little piece of fashion history – and brag to friends, who questioned our sanity when we stood in a freezing queue for a pair of branded socks.
The beast behind a lot of this hyped hysteria is Supreme, the New York-based skate brand that has become the ultimate fashion status symbol. Last year, in an unprecedented move, the streetwear brand collaborated with Louis Vuitton for a collection that sent the fashion world into pandemonium – think tents pitched for days, queues bending around every nook and cranny of Soho, and real-life tears (mine, when I forgot the drop date).
Now, Supreme has partnered with luxury luggage brand Rimowa to create two exclusive aluminium styles in black and red, in cabin and hold sizes. If wearing your favourite brand on your sleeve wasn’t good enough for you, you know what you are going to be buying next.
The price has yet to be announced but be prepared to wince (and possibly remortgage your house) to have a slice of this Supreme pie.
The collection drops in Supreme stores and online on 12 April, and via 24 Sèvres on 14 April.
