The humble Teva sandal has just been named one of the hottest products in the world right now according to global fashion search platform Lyst, here’s why it’s reached peak popularity…
When it comes to clothes for the summer, our sartorial repertoire covers everything from minimalist cotton smock dresses to psychedelic tie-dye two pieces. It’s not on a one trend fits all when it comes to our wardrobes. But when it comes to our feet there has been one over-arching trend that has been near on impossible to avoid: dressing like your dad.
What started as dad trainers (that’s why you have a pair of busted New Balance lurking in your bedroom), quickly transformed into dad sandals. The exact ones you used to recoil from when he insisted on wearing them every day of your family holiday. Initially only adopted by industry insiders (we can see why), the dad sandal was spurred on by Phoebe Philo’s take on the ever-popular Birkenstock, and other industry cult favourites like the Chanel double strap sandals, Prada’s Velcro strapped sandals and Arizona Love’s bandana wrapped sandals. All of which have been total sell out.
Understandably we thought it might take a while for this trend to hit the mainstream, but the reality was one wear of the uber comfortable dad sandal and we understood why he had been waxing lyrical about it for decades.
Which is why the humble Teva sandal (the OG version will set you back £40), has just been named the hottest sandal in the world according to Lyst – the global fashion search platform– in their second quarter findings.
How do you go about finding the world’s hottest products?
Well, Lyst’s formula filters six million items by volume of social media mentions, searches, page views, interactions and sales across thousands of online store. So the fact that Teva sandals (in particular the Teva Hurricane XLT2) are the world’s second hottest product behind an Off-White bag for this quarter of 2019 (and has beaten both the Adidas bodysuit that Beyoncé wore and Gigi Hadid’s favourite tie-dye Ralph Lauren t-shirt) is pretty legit.
